Breaking Down Breaking News

After eleven years of successfully entertaining America through late night television, Stephen Colbert's "The Late Show" has officially come to an end. This follows the July 2025 announcement from CBS that the show was being cancelled. It was publicly stated that financial constraints were the reason for this cancellation. However, it is widely beleived by both Colbert and his fans that this was an attempt on CBS's part to gain favor with the Trump administration. In his time on The Late Show, Colbert never shied away from voicing his criticism of Donald Trump and his administration. Trump made his disdain for Colbert and his show very clear throughout his terms in office. So the question becomes, was this cancellation a means to silence a vocal Trump critic?

In Gen Z Terms

This is the David and Goliath fight. Only this time, Goliath won. But not only did Goliath win, he made himself the victim of the story and made an example of David for other on-comers.

What's even more comical is this is what we learned in school about the Russian and North Korean government, but this time it's happening stateside.

IMO (In My Opinion)

The news of Colbert's show cancelling is extremely disheartening. Trump and his supporters speak so extensively about the importance of "freedom of speech," and yet Donald Trump has essentially silenced Stephen Colbert for speaking out against his administration. So in the grand scheme of things, what does this tell us? When I spoke extensively about Project 2025 in a previous article, I listed media censorship as one of the ways Project 2025 will be enforced in our everyday lives. So it is my most humble opinion that Stephen Colbert is being made an example of. The tone of this cancellation is very negative and controlling. The implied message behind it is giving "see this is what happens when you speak against the commander in chief." The scary part about that is media censorship is one of the key factors of an authoritarian state. So if one of the biggest names in late night television is being cancelled for speaking out against Donald Trump, what does that mean for regular people when it pertains to voicing their opinions on social media? These are scary times we are living in, and understanding the intricacies of this administration makes it even scarier. But hope remains ever-present, and educating ourselves and those around us is the best chance we have at combating Project 2025.
